"I was blessed to grow up in a Christian family with a strong Christian heritage. I attended church regularly with my family and was taught about Christ from little on up. As a young child I just thought I was always saved, I don’t remember a time not knowing who God and Jesus Christ were, however, I also don’t remember a specific time having accepting Jesus as my Savior. I was a scared girl of 7, 8, and 9 years old who prayed every night that Jesus would come and forgive her sins and take her to heaven when she died. I was terrified of going to hell. I would pray every night alone in my bed, but I never told anyone because I thought everyone else thought I was a Christian and I was afraid of what people would think. When I was twelve I attended a church camp where a counselor shared Romans 10:9 with me. (“That if you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”) I knew I did and that settled it for me. I realized that I didn’t need to doubt anymore. I dedicated my life to God at camp that summer but I didn’t truly know what that meant until later. God used family and wonderful youth leaders to encourage me in my walk throughout my teenage years, and I was blessed with great friends in college who challenged me to grow in my faith and to learn more about God." --Jessica Heagy
